New service helping customers tackle energy bills

With the cost of living and energy bills still high up on the priority list, we are delighted that Hanover is one of five housing associations in Scotland who have partnered with Changeworks and secured funding through the Social Housing Fuel Support Fund.

This means that our tenants have access to energy advice and support through the Housing Association Energy Support Service. The resources available are designed to help customers experiencing difficulties with their fuel bills or experiencing fuel debt. There are also plenty of tips for keeping bills as low as possible and for understanding jargon.  Tenants can either refer themselves or be referred by Hanover colleagues for energy advice and support.

Tenants can access the Energy Advice Library whenever they choose.

Managing Energy Bills

Energy bills can be confusing – less than 50% of adults in the UK fully understand the jargon that energy companies use meaning it’s tempting not to read them at all.  The Energy Advice Library goes through the information found on a typical energy bill and makes sure to explain any of confusing terms.

Support when struggling with energy costs
Struggling with energy costs can be very stressful, especially when it has led to energy debt. It’s very common for people to get into fuel debt but there’s plenty of support to get through it. There are lots of laws in Scotland that regulate what a supplier can and can’t do if a customer is in debt. The Changeworks advice pages can also take customers through what to do and what to expect in the process.
