You might be forgiven for thinking that at the age of 91, Margaret Edmond would be quite justified in putting her feet up and taking it easy. Not so! The Stonehaven resident can still be found volunteering her time two days a week in the local Red Cross charity shop. Margaret was recently awarded special recognition after more than 60 years of volunteering for the Red Cross.
Tell us about yourself
I have three children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
I joined the Red Cross in 1957 and it was the best thing I have ever done. I just like helping people and meeting people. I was Commandant of the women’s detachment of the charity in Stonehaven before going into ambulance work. I went on to become an instructor in ambulance work in 1967.
I have also been awarded the voluntary service medal as well as a long service certificate from Oxfam. I work as a befriender in the town and have done for 17 years.
Three things you would want with you on a desert island?
I would like company, and plenty of books and music.
